Lawson Early Childhood Center is celebrating the recent award of McKinney Education Foundation grant award: Piecing Together the Puzzle: Assessment Tools for Students with Autism.
Jami O’Connell, Special Education teacher, wrote the grant to use special money to purchase evaluation materials for autistic students. Ms. O’Connell will implement the VB-Mapp assessment to assess students’ verbal and related skills. She will utilize the assessment to identify barriers to learning and developing language. Measuring students’ progress and testing whether they have acquired the necessary skills for learning in the educational environment is an important and valuable part of helping students achieve goals.
The VB-Mapp assessment will provide valuable information that will serve as a guide for the development of effective student goals in language, social skills and other curriculum areas.
Lawson ECC is proud of Jami and the time and effort she puts into the process of advocating for her students.
