McKinney, TX Tests Positive for West Nile Virus, City to Spray for Mosquitoes Tonight

McKINNEY, Texas (Aug. 19, 2015) – McKinney is set to spray an area of the city in order to control mosquitoes after two positive mosquito pools for West Nile Virus were confirmed today. Because the forecast includes rain the end of the week, the spraying will take place overnight tomorrow. Weather permitting, crews will spray between 10 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20 and 6 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 21. The spray area is generally south of White Ave., west of Airport Dr., north of Eldorado Pkwy./Industrial Blvd., and east of U.S. 75.

Signs will be posted at major intersections to notify residents of spraying activity, and information and a map of the spray area will be posted on the city’s website at

Residents in the spray area are advised to stay indoors during the spray period and should bring their pets inside that evening. Residents who do not want to spray near their home should contact City of McKinney Health Compliance at 972-547-7472 by 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20.

McKinney residents are encouraged to take precautions to avoid bites and help eliminate mosquito egg-laying sites by draining standing water around homes and neighborhoods, using a mosquito repellant with DEET, and staying indoors at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active.
