McKinney, TX Adds Two New National Awards to City Résumé

McKINNEY, Texas (Sept. 15, 2015) – The City of McKinney Communications and Marketing Department was honored with two national Savvy awards for the 2014 electronic annual report and the Best Places to Live campaign during the annual 3CMA Conference in Atlanta.

3CMA, the City-County Communications and Marketing Association, is the leading organization for local government communications. Savvy awards recognize the best strategic marketing and compelling communications programs nationwide. McKinney competed among more than 500 entries from hundreds of cities nationwide.

The city received the Savvy Award for the 2014 Annual Report “Where we live. work. play.” This is the second year in a row McKinney has received the prestigious award.

“Each year, the annual report provides the city with an avenue to share important accomplishments and financial information with residents and businesses. Throughout the report there is a strong sense of pride in the City of McKinney,” said CoCo Good, Director of the McKinney Communications and Marketing Department. “It’s a very prestigious honor to earn this award two years running for the city annual report.”

Judges for 3CMA praised the annual report for using videos and links on nearly every page for additional information, as well as including numerous reader-friendly graphics.

The 2014 Annual Report provided a host of statistics that show McKinney a superior city, stemming from the city’s ranking as #1 on the Best Places to Live in America by Money Magazine. The digital format, with 130 infographics, 20 videos and links to more information, enhances the text and bring the stories to life. The Annual Report spans everything from the budget and development to city events and historic downtown, and can be viewed at www.mckinneytexas.org/2014report.

The city also earned an Award of Excellence for the Best Places to Live campaign. In order to leverage the national attention and generate community-wide pride in the achievement, the city created a campaign centered on the distinction. This encompassed the strategic plan, created deliverables and execution of the full advertising and marketing campaign that followed McKinney’s designation as the #1 Best Place to Live in the country.

“The competition is based not only on the strategy behind the communications and the quality of the product, but on measurable results,” said Good. “This national competition encompasses hundreds of cities nationwide so it is an honor to win even one award. To bring home two for McKinney is a feat for which we are very proud.”
