McKinney will continue spraying an area of the city on Friday, Aug. 31 after confirming a new positive human case of West Nile Virus. The spray area has expanded north to White Ave.
Starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, crews will spray east of U.S. 75, South of White Ave., West of S.H. 5 (McDonald St.) and North of Market Place. Spraying takes place overnight, weather permitting. Residents who do not want to spray near their home may contact the City of McKinney Health Compliance at (972) 547-7447 by 2 p.m. the day of spraying.
Signs will be posted at major intersections to notify residents of spraying activity and information. Residents in the spray area are advised to stay indoors during the spray period and should bring their pets inside that evening. A map of all areas of the city that have been sprayed to treat for West Nile Virus is posted on the city’s website at www.mckinneytexas.org/mosquitocontrol.
For more information, or to report standing water, illegal dumping and increased mosquito activity, call the West Nile information line at 972-547-7473. The city will continue to monitor mosquito activity and take measures to control mosquitoes. The chemical sprayed during mosquito control measures to combat the West Nile Virus is Aqualeur 20/20, a synthetic compound similar to a chemical that occurs naturally in Chrysanthemums.
