McKinney Sprays For Mosquitoes Sept 24-26

Submitted by The City of McKinney

McKinney will spray an area of the city next week after receiving laboratory confirmation of a human case of West Nile Virus. Crews will spray overnight from Monday, Sept. 24 through Wednesday, Sept. 26. Spraying starts at approximately 10 p.m. and lasts through 6 a.m. the next day. The spray area is generally east of U.S. 75, south of U.S. 380, west of S.H. 5, and north of Louisiana St.

A map of all areas of the city that have been sprayed to treat for West Nile Virus is posted on the city’s website at www.mckinneytexas.org/mosquitocontrol. Residents who do not want to spray near their home may contact the City of McKinney Health Compliance at 972-547-7447 by 2 p.m. the day of spraying. Signs will be posted at major intersections to notify residents of spraying activity and information. Residents in the spray area are advised to stay indoors during the spray period and should bring their pets inside.

For more information, or to report standing water and increased mosquito activity, call the West Nile information line at 972-547-7473. The chemical sprayed during mosquito control measures to combat the West Nile Virus is Aqualuer 20/20, a synthetic compound similar to a chemical that occurs naturally in Chrysanthemums. The MSDS for the compound and the label can be found on the website.

The city will continue to monitor mosquito activity and take measures to control mosquitoes. There have been 10 reported human cases of West Nile Virus in McKinney and no deaths reported due to West Nile Virus.
