McKinney, Texas – October 27, 2015 – McKinney Friday Rotary Club today announced their 16th Annual Christmas Parade of Lights will be held Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. on McKinney’s historic town square. The theme for this year’s parade is “The Gift of Christmas”.
The FREE, family-friendly event has become the focal point for the community during the holiday season. Organized by the Friday Noon Rotary Club, this year’s parade sponsors include (to date) McKinney Community Development Corporation (promotional sponsor); Community Impact Newspaper, KLAK 97.5, MISD Community Affairs, Tomes Auto Group, First Choice ERMcKinney, AG-Power, Baylor Hospital – McKinney and Healthcare Associates of McKinney. “This year, we are excited to announce the ‘Gift of Christmas’ Parade, which perfectly echoes the 2015 theme of Rotary International: ‘Be a Gift to the World’”, said club President Tommy Stanley. “We are proud that this is the 16th anniversary of this important community event.”
The parade features over 50 floats from area businesses, clubs and organizations, as well as marching bands and performing groups. Floats are judged and prizes are awarded (1st = $1000, 2nd = $500, 3rd = $300 and 4th prize is $200. The parade begins at 6:30PM. Hosted by Grand Marshall Burton Gilliam (star of Mel Brooks’ classic “Blazing Saddles”, Oscar-winning “Paper Moon”, “Fletch”, “Back to the Future III”, “Honeymoon in Vegas” and “Evening Shade”), the parade also features very special guest star Santa Claus, (on a brief break from toy-building at the North Pole).
