Representative-Elect for Texas House District 33, Scott Turner, announced Thursday he has appointed McKinney resident Deanna Kuykendall as his Chief of Staff. Kuykendall currently serves as Turner’s Campaign Manager and will assume her new post on January 8, 2013.
In response to the appointment, Kuykendall stated, “I am incredibly honored to accept this position. Representative-Elect Turner is a man of honesty and integrity; he believes in hard work and servant leadership. I look forward to working closely with the constituents in Collin and Rockwall County.” Turner stated, “Mrs. Kuykendall has been an invaluable asset to my campaign. She brings years of experience, shares my vision of servant leadership, and is committed to the betterment of this new District. My team and I will work hard to advocate for the residents of District 33.”
Formerly Deanna Redelsperger, Kuykendall spent her early years on a cattle farm in the Texas Panhandle before her family moved to Hereford, Texas. After graduating from Hereford High School, she was recruited to attend Eastern New Mexico University on a speech/debate scholarship. While there, Kuykendall served as a Student Lobbyist on behalf of the University in the New Mexico State Legislature. Upon receiving her degree in 2001, Kuykendall moved to Dallas to begin her 10-year career with the esteemed United States Congressman Sam Johnson. During her tenure with the senior Member of Congress and former POW, her primary duties included: maintaining Congressman Johnson’s district schedule, acting as a liaison between constituents and federal agencies, and conducting outreach throughout Collin County. In 2011, Kuykendall left Congressman Johnson’s office to serve as Campaign Manager for Representative-Elect Turner.
Kuykendall is a member of several community organizations including: Leadership Rockwall County Class of 2013, Community Lifeline Center’s Veterans Coalition Advisory Council, Frisco Area Republican Women’s Club, Republican Women of North Collin County, and the Rockwall County Republican Women’s Club. She is also Chairman of the McKinney YMCA’s Board of Management and is active in local Chambers of Commerce. Kuykendall has received several awards and recognitions including the 2008 Dixie Clem Award and the 2011 Sam Winstead Volunteer of the Year for the McKinney YMCA.
Representative-Elect Scott Turner is a small businessman and former NFL player. Growing up in Richardson and graduating from JJ Pearce High School, Turner received an athletic/academic scholarship to the University of Illinois. In 1994, he received his degree in Speech Communications and in 1995 he began his 9 year professional football career when he was drafted by the Washington Redskins. He went on to play for the San Diego Chargers and the Denver Broncos. After retiring from the NFL, Turner returned to the Dallas area to pursue his business career. Turner currently serves as the Director of Business Development and Corporate Chaplain at Systemware, Inc. He and his wife, Robin, of 17 years, and nephew Solomon reside in Frisco. Beginning in January, Turner will represent Texas House District 33 which includes all of Rockwall County and portions of Collin County.
