McKinney Project Graduation 2011 Plans Underway

McKinney Project Graduation 2011 Plans Underway

While many of us are awaiting the beginning of summer vacation, there are approximately 1400 McKinney ISD seniors preparing for a new chapter in their lives.  In its 8th year, McKinney Project Graduation is dedicated to providing an all-night, alcohol- and drug-free celebration for the graduates and their guests to celebrate their accomplishments.

Statistics indicate that drugs and alcohol are a part of many teenage celebrations which can result in a tragic accident or overdose.  Project Graduation allows the seniors to celebrate with their friends while enjoying games, music, food and winning prizes.  This year’s event will again be held at Myers Event Center on the evening of June 3.  There will be inflatables (including favorites like Sumo wrestling suits, a Velcro wall, and the obstacle course), casino games, bingo, rock climbing wall, and a DJ.

Everyone, of course, looks forward to the many prize drawings held throughout the evening with the main attraction being the chance to win the grand prize—a car.  Project Graduation is thankful for the donation from Nissan of McKinney owner and general manager, Chris Godwin.  This will be the 5th vehicle donated by Mr. Godwin, a loyal supporter of PG.

Last year over $       in cash and prizes were awarded to the graduates at PG with approximately 1400 students and their guests in attendance.  This is a huge undertaking that requires the entire community’s support through donations of time and money.  Plans are well underway for the 2011 PG celebration, but additional funds and volunteers are still needed to make this a success.  A Contribution Campaign letter was mailed community-wide in February.   Local donations are the major source of funding for PG so please support Project Graduation 2011!  As PG Director for the third consecutive year, Deana McGonagill is a firm believer in this celebration.  “This has become a tradition for our seniors and we need the public’s support.  Our only mission is to keep these young people and our community safe on graduation night.”

“If just one life is saved it’s all worthwhile.”  For more information or to volunteer please visit the Project Graduation website at www.mckinneys-project-graduation.com or mail donations to Project Graduation, P.O. Box 1235, McKinney, TX, 75070.
