Next month, 12 of the most elite 16-and-under baseball teams from North America will converge in McKinney for the AABC Mickey Mantle World Series. Now in its 18th year, the 2013 event will take place July 30 through August 4.
This baseball tournament has hosted several players who have gone onto professional baseball careers, including former Texas Ranger Hank Blalock, current Los Angeles Dodger and Highland Park grad Clayton Kershaw, and the L.A. Angels power hitter Mark Trumbo.
McKinney is honored to host this yearly event in its own backyard, as teams from all over North America can clinch a berth to the tournament. On any given afternoon at the MMWS, you can watch a team from Puerto Rico play an Ohio squad, and afterwards see a team from Ontario square off with a team from San Diego. And as the quality of talent at the MMWS is always elite, you are sure to get a first look at several future college and professional stars.
An area Mickey Mantle Qualifier takes place this week, from June 18-23.
