The McKinney Police Department held a Police Memorial Ceremony on Thursday, May 19 at 6 p.m. at the Public Safety Building, 2200 Taylor Burk Dr. The ceremony honored the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty while protecting communities and safeguarding democracy.
McKinney police honor guard and the Plano Police Department’s Bag Pipes participated in the ceremony. which consisted of the presenting of colors, 21 gun salute and playing of taps. McKinney police officers particpated in the roll call for the seventeen Texas officers and three McKinney officers killed in the line of duty. Students from North Texas Christian school sang Amazing Grace during the ceremony.
The Police Memorial Ceremony is part of National Police Week, which takes place this year from May 15-21.
