McKinney Police Department to hold Citizens Police Academy

New_McKinney_Police_Car_2The McKinney Police Department is offering a Citizens Police Academy beginning Feb. 13 to educate residents about personal safety, traffic laws, DWI stops, crime scene investigations, SWAT and K-9 teams, and other police functions.

The 14-week course will be held from 7-10 p.m. every Thursday at the McKinney Public Safety Building, 2200 Taylor Burk Dr.

The primary goal of the Citizens Police Academy is to foster a better relationship between the community and the police department. It is envisioned that class members will:

  • ·         Gain an understanding of the operations of the McKinney Police Department,
  • ·         Develop an awareness and appreciation of the various challenges and decisions faced daily by police officers,
  • ·         Participate in practical exercises designed to illustrate various situations an officer experiences while on duty.

For more information, call 972-547-7615 or visit for class requirements and an application form.
