The McKinney Police Department is offering a Citizens Police Academy beginning Feb. 13 to educate residents about personal safety, traffic laws, DWI stops, crime scene investigations, SWAT and K-9 teams, and other police functions.
The 14-week course will be held from 7-10 p.m. every Thursday at the McKinney Public Safety Building, 2200 Taylor Burk Dr.
The primary goal of the Citizens Police Academy is to foster a better relationship between the community and the police department. It is envisioned that class members will:
- · Gain an understanding of the operations of the McKinney Police Department,
- · Develop an awareness and appreciation of the various challenges and decisions faced daily by police officers,
- · Participate in practical exercises designed to illustrate various situations an officer experiences while on duty.
