The McKinney Police Department and the McKinney Independent School District (MISD) have worked together to implement a new program that places School Resource Officers (SRO) at the five middle schools in the district. Full-time School Resource Officers will be on staff in all MISD Middle Schools when school resumes Tuesday, January 8.
“The City and the School District have been committed to working together to find a way to staff the McKinney middle schools with School Resource Officers, and we are pleased to start this program this semester. The SROs are the best liaison between the Police Department and the School District, giving students, faculty and staff full-time access to our officers,” said McKinney Chief of Police Joe Williams.
Patrol officers will continue daily stops at each elementary school within McKinney, a practice initiated several weeks ago. There are currently 20 MISD elementary schools, one Prosper ISD elementary school and five Frisco ISD elementary schools within McKinney city limits. An SRO is already on staff at each of the three high schools in McKinney.
