Jordan Hart claimed the Class 4A Boys Singles title at the UIL State Tennis Tournament on Tuesday in Austin.
And he got revenge to boot.
Hart, from McKinney North, rallied to defeat Austin Mayo of Austin Lake Travis, 5-7, 7-6 (7-1), 6-1, in the championship match Tuesday morning. A year ago, Mayo was part of a Lake Travis doubles team that defeated Hart and Matt Mattei in the state quarterfinals.
It was quite a tournament for Hart, the Region II champion. It started in the state quarterfinals on Monday morning, when he knocked off Dillon Launius of Austin Vandergrift in a roller coaster of a match, 6-0, 1-6, 6-3.
It continued later Monday morning when Hart won his semifinal match over Will Adkisson of North Richland Hills Birdville, 7-5, 6-3.
And it culminated Tuesday morning with the win over Mayo.
This was Hart’s second straight trip to Austin, where the tournament was held at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center on the University of Texas campus. Last year he teamed with Mattei in boys doubles to reach the State Quarterfinals before losing to eventual State Champions O’Rourke/Mayo from Austin Lake Travis HS.
Hart’s Region II win last month was North’s first Regional Gold Medal in North Tennis History.
