Friends, family and teammates watched as McKinney North seniors Belicia Mendiola and Hadley Tucker signed National Letters of Intent to play college soccer Wednesday at the MNHS athletic facility.
Mendiola signed with Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn. Hadlie Tucker signed with the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg.
Head Coach Lance Lovell said, “It’s an honor for me and a privilege, and I’m proud of them. These two are very strong soccer players and also good leaders, on the soccer field and in the classroom.”
“These two wouldn’t be here without their parents,” Lovell added, recognizing the parents who were present.
Both girls played on North’s varsity team for four years.
The atmosphere (at Belmont) was somewhere I could picture myself being and playing soccer there for four years,” Mendiola said. She hopes to major in sports science.
Tucker said she chose TPA because “the people there are really nice and the coach is really good. This will be their first year to have a women’s soccer team and I’m going to be on that starting team.”
Tucker said she plans to major in pre-med.
