McKinney Libraries to Host Digital Bookmobile National Tour

McKINNEY, Texas (July 7, 2015) – The McKinney Public Library System has embraced technology for the next generation of readers with access to best-selling and classic eBooks and audiobooks through the OverDrive Digital Download System.

Those who are interested in learning more about downloading free books on their smartphone, tablet or e-reader device are invited to the Digital Bookmobile National Tour that makes its way through McKinney on Monday, July 13 from 1–5 p.m. at the John & Judy Gay Library, 6861 W. Eldorado Pkwy.

At the free event, readers of all ages will learn how to access eBooks and audiobooks from the library through interactive demonstrations and instructional videos.

“McKinney library cardholders downloaded more than 41,000 digital and audio books last year. We understand that there are so many ways to enjoy a great book, and we are proud to offer this convenience, all for free and all online,” said Janet Cox, Library Systems Coordinator.

The Digital Bookmobile is housed inside an 18-wheel tractor-trailer. Interactive learning stations give visitors an opportunity to search the library’s digital media collection, use supported mobile devices, and sample eBooks, audiobooks, and video. The Gadget Gallery is stocked with several name brand tablets and e-readers that will help visitors discover portable devices that are compatible with the library’s digital service.
