McKinney, Texas – For the sixth year in a row, McKinney ISD has earned the highest possible recognition for financial transparency from the Texas Comptroller Leadership Circle.
In late 2009, Susan Combs, who served as Texas Comptroller from 2007 – 2015, launched the Texas Comptroller Leadership Circle to rate and recognize cities, counties, school districts and other government agencies in the area of financial transparency.
For the sixth straight year, McKinney ISD has earned the highest recognition in that program and is one of only 53 of Texas’ 1,024 public school districts who have achieved that honor thus far in 2015.
From 2010 – 2013, McKinney ISD earned Gold recognition, the highest level attainable during that time period. But in 2014, the Comptroller’s office introduced a new, “Platinum” level of recognition to honor institutions that had met an even higher standard of financial transparency. McKinney ISD earned the new status last year by taking extra measures to ensure transparency and scoring 21 out of 22 points on the rating criteria.
For 2015, McKinney ISD has retained Platinum status by earning 22 of 23 points on the rating criteria.
The award highlights the district’s ongoing commitment to transparency and clear communication with the community.
“It is always nice to be honored by a third party when it relates to fiscal responsibility and fiscal transparency,” said Cody Cunningham, McKinney ISD Chief Communications Officer. “We work hard to be as transparent as possible, and we have invested resources to ensure we have timely and comprehensive information posted on our website. We recognize there is always room for improvement and we look forward to continuing to publish important information related to the District’s finances, policies, programs and schools.”
Local governments receiving a Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze Texas Comptroller Leadership Circle award have opened their books to the public and provide clear, consistent pictures of spending with detailed information on how tax dollars are allocated and spent. Top-ranking entities provide information online in an easily accessible, user-friendly format and set up features that allow taxpayers to easily drill down for more detailed information.
“McKinney ISD is thrilled when an outside agency recognizes the transparency of the district’s fiscal matters. The Platinum status from the Comptroller verifies that we are being open and honest with the public,” said Chief Financial Officer Dr. Edd Bigbee.
