Join McKinney Mayor Brian Loughmiller on Saturday, June 25 to celebrate Olympic Day in McKinney with a Mini-Olympics Field Day track and field competition at McKinney North High School, 2550 Wilmeth Rd. The event takes place from 8:00 – 11:00 AM.
At the Mini-Olympics Field Day, all participants will compete in the Long Jump, Vertical Challenge and Football Throw. Running events include a 50m dash for 7 to 8 year-olds, a 75m dash for ages 9 to 10, and a 100m dash race for participants ages 11 to 12 years-old. Top finishers in each event will be awarded with medals. All participants will receive an Olympic Day Certificate and goodie bag.
Special guest appearances will be made by Olympians Joan Hansen and Eddie Southern. Former World Record holder Hansen represented the U.S. in the 3,000 meter race at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, finishing 8th after falling during the final. Southern finished second to Glenn Davis at the 1956 Final Trials, running the second-fastest 400m hurdles in history (49.7 seconds). He again finished second to Davis at the Olympics, earning the silver medal in the 400m hurdles.

Olympic Day, held annually on June 23, is celebrated by thousands of people in more than 160 countries. Commemorating the birth of the modern Olympic Games, Olympic Day is not only a celebration, but an international effort to promote fitness and well-being in addition to Olympic ideals of Fair Play, Perseverance, Respect and Sportsmanship.
