Michele Estes is out as head coach of the McKinney Boyd girls soccer program, McKinney ISD athletics director Shawn Pratt confirmed Monday afternoon.
In an email to TownSquareBuzz.com, Pratt stated that MISD has begun the process of searching for a new head coach.
“While we know that this change in leadership may prompt questions, please understand this is a confidential personnel matter and, therefore, will not be discussed in detail,” Pratt said. “We are confident that the position will attract a large number of highly qualified coaches.”
Estes spent two seasons as head coach at Boyd. She had served as Jimmie Lankford’s top assistant coach prior to Lankford’s resignation during the summer of 2011 following his second state title with the Lady Broncos. Lankford left to take a new job in Colorado.
The Lady Broncos’ 2013 season ended April 4 with a 3-2 loss to Sachse in the Area Round of the 5A playoffs at Plano’s John Clark Stadium. Boyd finished 15-4-5 on the season and came in second in District 10-5A behind state-ranked Plano West.
In Estes’ first season in 2012, the Lady Broncos made it to the 5A Regional Quarterfinals, where they lost 3-2 to A&M Consolidated. The Lady Broncos finished that season 21-2-2.
MISD has posted the position, and Pratt said the coming weeks and months will be spent searching for the best individual for the position.
“We appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to continuing a great tradition of success in the program,” Pratt said.
