McKinney, Texas – The C-SPAN Education Foundation has chosen McKinney Boyd High School social studies teacher Randy Bilyeu as its fall 2015 Senior Teacher Fellow for his expertise as an educator and his innovative use of C-SPAN’s programs and resources with students.
This is the second time Bilyeu has been selected to work with C-SPAN Classroom. Last year, he was one of three teachers chosen to serve as a 2014 Teacher Fellow, and his continued input at C-SPAN will impact student learning in classrooms across the country.
Senior fellows are chosen by a panel of C-SPAN representatives and evaluated based on their innovative use of C-SPAN programming, dedication to learning new technologies and commitment to professional development. C-SPAN selects four senior fellows each academic year, two for each semester, who work with C-SPAN Classroom staff in Washington. Bilyeu will be working with spring 2015 C-SPAN Senior Fellow Brian Rock throughout the semester.
“We are thrilled to have another stellar teacher as a C-SPAN senior fellow, whose ideas and enthusiasm for our educational tools will offer new ways to make social studies more exciting for students,” said Craig McAndrew, C-SPAN Education Relations Manager. “We had the chance to work with Randy last summer, and we’re excited about what he will do in this expanded role.”
Bilyeu teaches U.S. Government and AP U.S. Government at Boyd. He earned his BA from Midwestern State University and has 26 years of experience in secondary and adult education. Bilyeu is the National Honor Society sponsor at Boyd and has served McKinney ISD as a grade level team leader, campus department chair and the district’s curriculum design team leader. In addition, he has worked as a question writer for the Texas Education Agency, and as a contributor, in 2006, to the Texas Education Agency’s Region 10 primary source curriculum tool.
“I feel incredibly honored to have been selected by C-SPAN to be a Senior Fellow,” said Bilyeu. “To me, the opportunity to continue my relationship with such a prestigious organization, means that the U.S. Government and AP Government students in MISD and McKinney Boyd High School specifically will have the ability to help shape public discussion on significant issues facing their generation. McKinney ISD is a world class school district and it is filled with teachers and students who are making meaningful contributions in our community and around the world.”
