Updated: Johnny Quinn and his USA-2 4 bobsled teammates finished 12th out of 30 teams at the Winer Olympics after the final two runs early in Sochi. The runs took place early Sunday morning, Texas Time. Their overall time was 3:42.70 for four runs, 2.1 seconds behind the winning sled for Russia.
The good news is, USA-1 won the Bronze medal. You can see the story here.
Original story: One 4-man U.S. Boblsed team is in fourth place halfway through the Olympic event at Sochi, Russia.
The other, which includes pusher Johnny Quinn of McKinney, is in 11th place.
One of the Quinn’s teammates, Nick Cunningham of Monterey, Calif., admitted that the team’s medal dreams ended after placing only 14th out of 30 teams in the first run. The squad, known as USA-2, moved up three spots in the second run prior to Sunday’s final two runs.
“We know our medal dreams are pretty much gone,” Cunningham told teamusa.org, “so we regrouped and reevaluated what we’re doing and our goal was to pick off some teams in that second run. Once we did that it took some pressure off and right now we’re just pushing for each other, we’re pushing for our country, and we’re going to the best we can. That’s all we can do now, and we’re going keep fighting until the last corner.”
USA-1 has a terrific chance at meddling. That is the team currently in fourth and made up of Steven Holcomb (Park City, Utah), Curt Tomasevicz (Shelby, Neb.), Steve Langton (Melrose, Mass.) and Chris Fogt (Alpine, Utah).
The final two runs of the competition begin at 3:30 a.m. Texas time Sunday and it is scheduled for live coverage on NBC Sports Network and will be repeated at 1 p.m. on NBC-5 in Dallas.
Quinn is a graduate of McKinney High School and lives in McKinney. He played collegiate football at North Texas, where he set UNT’s all-time receptions record. If you missed TSB publisher Angie Bado’s interview with her longtime friends, Quinn’s parents, it’s worth a click right now, right here.
