Ben Smith has been appointed judge of the 380th Judicial District Court in Collin County until November’s general election, according to the The Dallas Morning News. However, his term will likely be much longer. After winning the July 31 runoff for the position, Smith, a McKinney attorney, faces no opposition in November’s general election.
The position became open when former Judge Suzanne Wooten was placed on leave after being indicated in a 2010 bribery case. She later resigned.
The News’ story Friday said that Gov. Rick Perry announced the appointment of Smith on Thursday. Smith is in private practice. He formerly was chief felony prosecutor in Collin County.
Earlier this year, Smith was selected for the 2012 40 Under 40 award sponsored by the Collin County Business Press.
