McKinney Athletes, Coaches and City Officials Predict the Winner of Super Bowl 47

By Mike Bruu, TSB Sports Editor

With Super Bowl 47 kicking off Sunday evening, thought it would be fun to see who some of our interested citizens were picking to win the big game. If you still haven’t made a prediction on the game and need some help, here are some suggestions from some city officials, high school coaches and athletes:

Chief of Police Joe Williams: “Neither one. I can’t root for either and can only root for the Dallas Cowboys, but I’ll go with the 49ers.”

Ken Weigand, Exec. Director of Airport said he was going with the 49ers because he doesn’t want the Ravens to win as he and his wife are big Steelers fans.

Ty Lake, MPAC: “Cowboys… Not really. I’ll be enjoying the food and the commercials.”

Randy Roland, Asst. Chief of Police: “Ravens, because if the Niners win they will have more Super Bowls than the Cowboys.”

Aretha Adams, Assistant to the City Manager: “I’m rooting for Beyonce.”

Dee-Dee Guerra, Interim Exec. Director of McKinney Convention & Visitor’s Bureau: “Who’s playing? I don’t do football anymore, unless it is college.”

Megan Mollett, Boyd volleyball player: “Ray Lewis (Ravens) because he is an inspirational player! Makes everyone around him better! With this being his last year before his retirement, I’d love to see him come out on top.”

Shawn Pratt, MISD Athletic Coordinator: “Baltimore.”

Jeff Smith, MHS athletic director and head football coach: “I’ll go with the Ravens. The 49ers are probably the better team on paper, but the Ravens just have a lot of emotional stuff backing them up.”

Mike Fecci, North athletic director and head football coach: “Give me the Ravens.”

Don Drake, Boyd athletic director and head football coach: “I’ll take the 49ers since the other two (football) coaches took the Ravens.”

T.V. Williams, MHS junior wide receiver: “I’ll go with the Ravens.”

Red Shannon, MHS senior football and basketball player: “I think the Ravens will win because they have a monster defense that can stop the run but also hold (Michael) Crabtree and (Vernon) Davis and not let them get going. On the option that (Colin) Kaepernick tries to do, they are going to hurt him.”

Robert Somborm, MHS senior quarterback: “I think I’m going to have to go with the 49ers because of the offense they run with Kaepernick. He’s been hot lately, throwing the ball and running the read option, and I think if he plays well, the offense will do well. The defense will be able to hold its own. It will be a good game, but I think the 49ers will do it.”

Bryan Driskell, Boyd senior running back: “The Ravens will win the game because they have more momentum. With Ray Lewis and potentially Ed Reed going out, they’re playing with so much emotion. And by position, they have more talent.”

There you have it folks. According to our 15 McKinney participants, eight people say the Baltimore Ravens will win, four people say the San Francisco 49ers will win, one says Beyonce will win during the halftime show, and two are either watching for commercials or can’t name the teams in the game.

If you would like your prediction to be shared, post in the comment section below!

Regardless of which team you are rooting for on Super Bowl Sunday, or whether you are just watching to see how funny or cool the ads are, everyone here at TSB hopes you have a safe and fun Super Bowl Sunday!
