MCA Speech and Drama Makes Impressive Showing at District Competition

McKinney Christian Academy, for the second year in a row, made an impressive showing at the 3A TAPPS district speech and drama competition held at Richardson Canyon Creek Christian Academy, February 22 and 23.

Mrs. Cramer, TAPPS Coordinator, and Mrs. Orozco, Drama teacher took ten students for preliminary speech and drama competitions on Wednesday.

In Original Oratory, Emily Warren placed first, and Amanda Pace placed 3rd, earning the right to represent MCA at State Competition on March 30 and 31 in Austin. Making it through preliminary competition were Allyson Richey for Solo Acting, Mandy Moore for Poetry Interpretation, and Emily Warren and Shelly White in Persuasive speaking.

On Thursday, Mrs. Cramer, Mr. Keyes, and Mrs. Smith accompanied competitors for the district competition. At the end of the day, Bullard Brook Hill won first place with 122 total points; McKinney Christian placed second with 110.5.

First through fourth place winners in every category advance to state. The following students placed at district:

Shelly White  5thin Persuasive Speaking
Nan Tolson  5thin Current Events and Issues
Andrew Collins 5th in Number Sense, 6th in Advanced Math
