The Lady Mustangs defeated Lucas Christian 44-16 on Tuesday night to imrpove to 4-1 on the season.
MCA moved out to a 13-4 first quarter lead behind five points by freshman Hannah Wilks, four by Kaitlynnn McAdams, and two each by Kaycee Zanetell and Sarah Grubbs. The Lady Mustangs zone press also proved effective in preventing the Lucas offense from establishing a rhythm.
The second quarter was an exact replica of the first, with 13 points for the Mustangs and four points for the visitors for a 26-8 halftime lead for MCA. McAdams added four more, while Grubbs and freshman Makenna Schulte added a basket each. Sophomore point guard Lily Thompson, starting in the absence of Julie James, led the second quarter scoring with five points, including her first trey of the season, knocking down a 20 footer from the right wing.
The Mustangs used a half court trap to completely shut down Lucas in the third 12-0, as Grubbs and Schulte scored four each and McAdams and Grubbs had a basket each.
Lucas got the best of the MCA reserves in the fourth quarter, 8-6, for the final score of 44-16.
McAdams led MCA with 12 points and Wilks followed with 11. Schulte had eight, Grubbs six and Thompson five. Zanetell ended with two points. Wilks led in rebounds with nine, while McAdams and Sidney Thompson grabbed seven each.
