The Grand Hotel Ballroom at Rick’s Chop House in downtown McKinney was a busy spot on Wednesday evening as Mayor Brian Loughmiller officially launched his campaign for re-election. McKinney citizens stopped by to show their support, or to listen to what the Mayor had to say as he announced that his campaign would continue despite the fact that his opponent, Derrick Johnson, announced earlier this week that he had decided to suspend his campaign.
“I still have an opponent on the ballot, so I’m campaigning,” Loughiller said. “People need to go vote. I’m not the Mayor for the next four years until the people vote on May 11.”
The Mayor further elaborated that this election is an opportunity for McKinney residents to be engaged by voting.
April 11, 2013 is the last day to register to vote for the May 11 election. Early voting begins Monday, April 29 and runs through Tuesday, May 7.
