Hunter Mahan, a 1999 McKinney High graduate, was leading the PGA Tour’s Canadian Open after two rounds. But Saturday afternoon he left the course before he was scheduled to tee off when he found out that his wife Kandi had gone into labor with the couple’s first child.

“I received exciting news a short time ago,” Mahan, 31, said in a statement, “that my wife Kandi has gone into labor with our first child. Kandi and I are thrilled about the addition to the Mahan family, and we look forward to returning to the RBC Canadian Open in the coming years.”

Kandi is a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader.

Mahan was the second-round leader at 13-under.
