Following McKinney High’s 48-7 victory over North Garland last week, Lions football coach Jeff Smith said Friday’s matchup against Denton Ryan would be a great test two weeks before district play began.
Unfortunately, MHS didn’t fare too well on that test, falling to Denton Ryan 49-20 in Denton on Friday night to fall to 3-2 on the season.
The Lions fell behind 28-0 early and 42-0 at half, and were never able to fully come back despite outscoring Denton Ryan 20-7 in the second half.
McKinney High’s defense allowed 417 total yards Friday night – 278 rushing and 139 yards in the air.
Junior quarterback Bryan Sutter completed 15 of 22 passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns including one interception.
Senior running back Antonio Oliver led the way rushing MHS, carrying the ball 15 times for 94 yards. Senior receiver T.V. Williams snared five receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown.
McKinney, who is off next Friday, will prepare for its district opener Oct. 11 when the Lions host Plano Senior at Ron Poe Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
