On Saturday, October 22, 2011, the Leadership McKinney class of 2012 participated in McKinney Make a Difference Day by providing service to Holy Family School. Over 40 volunteers gathered in the early morning hours to improve the school’s playground, landscape and plant flowers, and lay the groundwork for a new community garden.
McKinney Make a Difference Day happens each year on the 4th Saturday in October, and is held in conjunction with the National Points of Light event. Hundreds of community volunteers via the Volunteer McKinney Center gather at locations throughout the community to participate in multiple service projects. This year’s event is sponsored by the McKinney Community Development Corporation (MCDC).
Leadership McKinney provides leadership training and educates persons about the McKinney community while promoting volunteer service. It is sponsored by the McKinney Chamber of Commerce.
Holy Family School, a mission of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas, opened it’s doors in 1950 to provide care for the children of Hispanic migrant workers, while preparing them to enter the public school system. In the 1960’s, the school opened to all children. Today, Holy Family School, continues to offer developmental programs to a diverse population of McKinney children.
