Submitted by Jeff Leach Campaign
Dr. Doug Otto, former Superintendent of the Plano Independent School District, today announced his endorsement of Jeff Leach in the upcoming runoff election for House District 67 on July 31st. Otto’s endorsement adds to the growing list of Collin County leaders who are rallying behind Jeff Leach’s campaign for the Texas House, including State Representative Jerry Madden, State Representative Ken Paxton and State Representative Jodie Laubenberg, as well as House District 67 Candidates Roger Burns, Mabel Simpson and John Pitchford, among many other community leaders and elected officials.
Dr. Otto stated, “As the former Superintendent of PISD, I am proud to endorse and support Jeff Leach in the run-off election for the Texas House of Representatives in District 67. Jeff and his family have deep roots in our community, he is a product of our public schools, and he understands that, in order to ensure the best education for his own children and the rest of the children in Collin County, we need local control of our schools, not costly one-size-fits-all mandates from the State or Federal Government. I know Jeff has the experience, character and the values necessary to be an outstanding State Representative and I am excited to support his candidacy.”
Dr. Otto led the Plano Independent School District, which serves over 55,000 students, since 1995. He announced his retirement in January 2012. In 2007, the Plano Independent School District Board of Trustees honored Dr. Otto as the namesake of the Douglas W. Otto Middle School, as a hallmark of his service to school children. Otto Middle School opened in August, 2010.
In response, Jeff Leach said, “I am honored to be endorsed by Dr. Doug Otto. As a product of Plano public schools, I understand the importance and value of a strong public education system. As the next State Representative for District 67, I will fight against unnecessary mandates from the State and Federal government and will work aggressively to re-establish the control of our education system at the local level – with parents, teachers, administrators and taxpayers working together to provide the best solutions for our communities.”
Running for Texas House of Representative in District 67, Jeff Leach was raised in Plano and graduated from Plano Senior High School. He is a graduate of SMU’s Dedman School of Law and currently practices with the law firm of Griffith Nixon Davison, P.C. He received his undergraduate degree from Baylor University. Jeff and his wife Becky are active members of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano. They live in Plano with their two children Brady, age 4, and Charlotte, age 1.
In addition to numerous community leaders across North Texas, Leach has previously earned endorsements from statewide organizations including Texans For Fiscal Responsibility, Young Conservatives of Texas, Texas Right to Life, Conservative Republicans of Texas, Concerned Women for America and the Collin County Conservative Republicans, among others. Leach is also “A” rated by the NRA and is the only candidate in the race for House District 67 that has been “TeaApproved” by the North Texas Tea Party.
