The McKinney Christian Academy girls basketball team bounced the pesky Paris Homeschool Lady Warriors 57-39 in Paris Thursday night, improving to 2-0 this season.
Playing without their point guard Julie James, the Mustangs pounded the ball inside to their talented frontline as Kaitlynn McAdams hit for 28 points and Hannah Wilks added 19 for 47 of the Mustangs’ 58 points. For the second straight game Wilks hit for 10 in the first stanza. McAdams had 6 and it was 16-8 after one.
McAdams went off in the 2nd for 14, Wilks added 5 and the Mustangs led at the half 35-21 with McAdams and Wilks scoring all 35 of the Mustangs’ first half points.
The Mustangs then put the defensive clamps on the Warriors in the third, shutting them out the in the period with a stifling man-to -man defense. Lily Thompson, subbing for James, and Sarah Grubbs led the defensive harassment from the guard spots. The offense was a little more balanced on 6 by McAdams and 2 each by Wilks, Sid Thompson and Makenna Schulte, resulting in a 47-21 advantage after 3.
Wilks and McAdams popped the lead to 30 at 51-21 early in the fourth and then took seats on the bench as the reserves took over for good. The Warriors took advantage of their absence by scoring 18 points in the 4th to close the margin of victory. Schulte added another basket for the Mustangs as did Lily Thompson and Sophomore Kayce Zanetell and your final 57-39 score.
McAdams added 10 steals, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks to her 28 points, while Wilks grabbed 13 rebounds to go with her 19. Schulte had 4 points and 7 rebounds. Sidney Thompson had 2 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Sister Lilly Thompson also scored 2 and had 3 steals. Zanetell had a basket and a trifecta of 3 steals, assists and rebounds.
