Innovative Solution to School Funding Launches in Collin County

Today, your child’s education is at risk. And the stakes can’t get any higher than that. 44% of the Texas budget goes to educating the state’s public school students. The current deficit is estimated at $27 Billion.

This week school boards in Collin County continue wrestling with budget cuts affecting tens of thousands of students. Budget cuts that bring increased class sizes, teacher layoffs and deep cuts in extra curricular activities. Bottom line: drastic cuts happening right now ultimately shape and determine a student’s life experience.

To meet these critical shortfalls, school districts today are forced to adopt new and innovative ways to bridge funding gaps. The School Spirit Pays program provides a unique opportunity for schools to partner with the local community to raise much-needed funds.

The premise employed by School Spirit Pays is simple — leverage the everyday buying activities of the community to create a revenue stream for local schools. Schools, businesses and parents have already seen the value and are signing on to solve their funding issues.

School Spirit Pays employs a unique credit card processing program enabling local merchants to contribute to schools by doing what they already do every day — accepting credit card payments from customers — at the same competitive processing rates they are paying today. The credit card processing rates that are typically paid to sales agents can now be redirected to the Education Foundations, PTAs/PTOs or Booster Clubs that
support the local schools.

This is not a rewards card program or a coupon-savings plan. School Spirit Pays is a unique, innovative concept that, with every credit or debit transaction, helps pay for school programs, teacher staffing, extracurricular activities, equipment – even basic classroom supplies.

Parents know what is needed at their kid’s schools – so they are motivated to get involved and buy from local School Spirit Pays businesses because they recognize that when those businesses grow, funds for schools increase. For the same amount of volunteer effort it takes to get sponsorship from local businesses for a single fundraising event, schools can generate recurring monthly revenue. Over time, this gives schools a much higher return on their fundraising efforts.

Enthusiasm for the program is already exploding in several Collin County school districts. In McKinney several schools have recently launched, and in Melissa the Education Foundation embraced the program and has rolled it out district-wide. School Spirit Pays is in the process of partnering with several other Collin County districts.

In parallel with rollout in Collin County, School Spirit Pays is preparing for immediate launch in the Dallas / Ft. Worth area, and throughout Texas, before going nationwide.
