The Imagine International Academy of North Texas, a public tuition-free charter school scheduled to open in the fall of 2012, announced that its permanent home will be located at 2860 Virginia Parkway, McKinney, TX 75071. Operated by Imagine Schools, the Academy plans to serve approximately 950 students in grades K-9 for the 2012-2013 school year, offering an academically rigorous college preparatory curriculum based upon the International Baccalaureate (IB) educational framework.
“Given the interest we have seen from local families, we expect our school to attract newcomers to the area and add to the quality of life that McKinney already offers,” said Ann Carrell, board president for the Academy and long-time McKinney resident, adding that “by working with Imagine Schools, we have been able to secure a home for the Academy at competitive rates, in spite of the difficulties that charter schools often face in finding suitable facilities.”
Dallas-based property developer, Don Gaskins, has partnered with Imagine Schools to provide the Academy with a custom-built facility of about 60,000 square feet containing specialty classrooms, multi-purpose space, and a library, on approximately eight acres that he owns.
Having successfully initiated several commercial and retail ventures in Oklahoma and Texas, Gaskins said that he welcomed the opportunity to use his real estate development expertise to “make a positive contribution to the local community,” noting that “all preparations are underway to ensure an on-schedule completion of the building by next summer.”
Having received official approval to open from the Texas Education Agency in May of 2011, the Academy will be seeking authorization from the International Baccalaureate Organization to provide the IB Primary Years Programme for students in grades K-5, the IB Middle Years Programme for students in grades 6-10, and the IB Diploma Programme for students in grades 11-12.
The Academy is scheduled to open in August 2012, serving students in grades K-9, and will accept students eligible to attend public school in McKinney ISD, Celina ISD, Frisco ISD, Princeton ISD, Prosper ISD, Lovejoy ISD, Allen ISD, and Melissa ISD.
