To no one’s surprise, McKinney’s Hollie Cavanagh survived Thursday’s cut on American Idol, as the singing competition moved to 12 contestants from 13.
“Hollie, you are safe,” Idol host Ryan Seacrest announced early in Fox’s hourlong program. “Congratulations.”
You could almost hear her followers, locally coined “Hollie-Pops,” screaming in delight.
That, of course, was expected. Hollie received rave reviews on Wednesday night for her rendition of Whitney Houston’s “All The Man I’ll Never Need.” All of the girls this week were required to perform a Houston number.
Prior to Thursday’s announcement of Hollie’s fate, Idol coach Jimmy Lovine sang her praises.
“Hollie was at an advantage for Whitney Houston songs,” Lovine said, referring to the style of music fitting her voice, “but she delivered on her promise. She suited up and showed up. She was fantastic.”
