Hollie Cavanagh Will Never Walk Alone

By Michele Stevens Bernard, TSB Entertainment Writer

American Idol contestant Hollie Cavanagh will, as the anthem of her favorite soccer team proclaims, “never walk alone.”

Not only does she have the support of her adopted hometown of McKinney, last week’s episode of the Fox television series found Hollie audibly gasping with delight as she received a shout out from her original digs across the pond. It came from hunky footballer Jamie Carragher of Hollie’s beloved Liverpool Football Club (LFC).  The young songstress grinned from ear to ear as the camera panned out to reveal the entire team smiling back at her and wishing her continued luck on her Idol journey. Be sure to check out the video of this special moment below this story.

“It made her life,” said brother Luke, who along with brother Aaron, were on hand in the studio audience to share the moment with their sister. When asked if the LFC enjoyed rock-star status in Europe, Luke replied, “You have no idea!”

“She was so excited about the Liverpool shout-out,” says Hollie’s dear friend and former McKinney Boyd soccer teammate Kaycee Short, “We talked after the show and she was like, CAN YOU BELIEVE LIVERPOOL GAVE A SHOUT OUT TO ME? That was a close second for happiest moment next to not being voted off the show!”

At this writing, Hollie is one of six finalists still vying for the title of American Idol. The 18-year-old is a 2011 graduate of McKinney Boyd.

Originally from Liverpool, England, Hollie, like the rest of her family avidly follows the LFC.  The Liverpool Football Club, founded in 1892, plays in the English Premier League and is based in Liverpool, Merseyside.  They’ve garnered 18 league titles, the 2nd most in English football, and have more European titles than other English teams.

“All of her family members are huge LFC fans, especially since they grew up there,” says Kaycee, “I’ve watched countless numbers of games with them, so, I was pretty much forced into becoming a fan too!”
Although, transplanted to Texas at a young age, Hollie continued her love of the game, as a fan, and as a player.  Hollie played soccer throughout high school, and was a member of last year’s 5A State Championship team.

“I always loved playing with her,” says Kaycee, “She would be right outside mid and I would be right forward, so we would always work together.”

Hollie also frequently assisted Kaycee in coaching some of the youngest players of the game.

“The game should be fun. You can work hard and still have fun.  When Hollie helped, we would work on skills, then play games at the end using learned skills in a fun way.”

According to Kaycee, Hollie would offer extra incentives to the 6 to 8 year olds they worked with as only she could do.

“Hollie would promise to sing for them at the end of practice if they worked hard,” says Kaycee, “She would sing “The Climb,” by Miley Cyrus, since all the girls knew and loved that song.  They loved it when she did that.”

“Soccer was a huge part of Hollie’s life,” says Kaycee, “And she was very good at it.”

To show Hollie that she indeed will never walk alone, join us at Jack’s Pub Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. to cheer her on, as with her big talent, and our faithful votes, she moves ever closer to her dream of becoming the next American Idol.
