The Kiwanis Club of McKinney hosted the Historic McKinney Kid’s Triathlon on Saturday, April 30 with over 140 participants. The Kid’s Triathlon consists of two age brackets, 6 to 10 and 11 to 14. The 6 to 10 age bracket swims 100 yards, bike ride of 2 ½ miles and a ½ mile run. The 11 to 14 age bracket swims 200 yards, bike ride 5 miles and run one mile. Each participant received a certificate with his or her race time printed on it. The Kiwanis members love supporting the kids that participated in this event.
The Kid’s triathlon is part of the Historic McKinney Kiwanis Triathlon. The 2011 Kid’s Tri was the third year for the event and has been received very well by the youth of the McKinney area. The 2011 Kid’s Tri saw an increase in participation by 35%.
Mayor Brian Loughmiller declared the month of May as “Get Fit Month” in McKinney and the Kid’s Tri sure kicked the month off in the right way. The Historic McKinney Kiwanis Triathlon and Run Races were held on Sunday, May 1st after a rain delay. The club thanks all that participated in the event even though everything was wet, below normal temperatures and there was a brisk north wind. The club had over 350 participants in the Triathlon and over 60 runners in the 3½ mile run race.
The McKinney Kiwanis Club wants to thank all of our sponsors for their financial support, the participants in the Triathlons, the volunteers and the public for supporting these fund raising events. The Kiwanis Club donates 100% of the proceeds from the events to local charities.
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
