High School Hallways is brief weekly digest of happenings in McKinney area high schools.

1) Project Graduation 2012
McKinney’s Project Graduation is a local non-profit organization whose mission is to execute a safe, after graduation celebration for the nearly 1,500 high school seniors who attend all McKinney schools. Your donation and time will not only help this year’s graduates, but will ensure that the Project Graduation tradition continues for future seniors. Please do what you can to make Project Graduation 2012 a night of memories and safety for our seniors.

2) SAT Preparation Program – Registration Deadline May 18th
Juniors and seniors are invited to an SAT preparation program from June 13 – June 28, 1pm – 4pm at Boyd. MISD teachers have been trained to give instruction critical reading, math, & writing, test taking strategies, and best practices for the SAT essay-writing portion.
This opportunity is limited to 75 students and will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. The program fee is $125 and each student receives a personal copy of The Official SAT Study Guide. To reserve your spot for this program, contact your school counselor or complete an enrollment form.
4) Former Boyd Student Hollie Cavanaugh American Idol Finalist
Join us on May 9th for a citywide watch party the McKinney Performing Arts Center. TownSquareBuzz.com and the McKinney Performing Arts Center have partnered to host a community-wide watch party in the Courtroom Theater from 7-9 p.m. The McKinney Performing Arts Center is located in the center of downtown McKinney at 111 N. Don’t forget to vote for Hollie this Wednesday from 9-11pm. If she advances to the Top 3, MISD and the City of McKinney will host a hometown homecoming for Hollie!
5) Boyd Senior Wins Best Actor in DSM High School Musical Awards; Advances to Nationals
McKinney Boyd High School Senior, Michael Williams, won Best Actor for his role as the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera. He advances to the National High School Musical Theatre Award competition on June 25, 2012 in New York City.

6) Boyd’s Spring Production of The Crucible
Boyd’s spring production of The Crucible, a dramatic re-enactment of the Salem Witch Trials in Massachusetts in the late 1600’s, opens May 10th at 7pm and has additional performances on May 11th at 7pm and a Saturday, May 12th at 2pm. Tickets are $5 if purchased in advance or $7 if purchased at the door at Boyd’s theatre box office.
This production of The Crucible highlights the talents of over 50 Boyd Theatre students on stage and showcases the technical skills of over 100 tech students!
7) Boyd Beach Bash
Incoming 7 – 12th graders are invited to sign up for the 4 x 4 sand volleyball tournament on Saturday, May 12th at The Beach – Craig Ranch. Check in time is 1pm with a 2pm start time. Join the fun for $25 per person and make sure to bring your lawn chairs, umbrellas and sunscreen! Please email or check out the event flyer for more details.
8) Dinner With Disney
The Dinner With Disney dinner show is presented by MCA High School and Junior High Choirs on Saturday, May 12th at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Life Center.
