High School Hallways – Week of February 20th

High School Hallways is brief weekly digest of happenings in McKinney area high schools.

McKinney Independent School District (MISD)

1) MEF’s Spelling Bee For Scholarships                   

McKinney civic leaders, community volunteers, and businessmen and women are dusting off their dictionaries and asking their kids to quiz them (for a change) as they prep for the upcoming McKinney Education Foundation’s Spelling Bee for Scholarships on Thursday, February 23rd from 11:15 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Eldorado Country Club.  Call the MEF at 469-742-6313 for more information, or to reserve your seats by Tuesday, February 21st!

2) Now Accepting Student Teacher Applications           

If you are a certified educator or have a bachelor’s degree and are interested in becoming a substitute for McKinney ISD, visit the Human Resources department page for details and complete a substitute employment application.

3) Cheerleading Tryouts  – Online Forms due Feb 21st                                                                    

Cheerleaders support the curricular and extracurricular activities of McKinney ISD by promoting school spirit.  For more information, please contact Tami Hines, MISD Cheerleading Coordinator at 469-742-4213.

4) McKinney Noon Lions Club Chili Supper

Come enjoy all you can eat chili and bring the kids along to play in the bounce house, get their face painted, and participate in the live and silent auctions on February 23rd from 5:30- 8:30pm in the McKinney High cafeteria. Proceeds support Vision for children in MISD.

5) An Evening with Cole Porter

Presented by the 11:46 Jazz Project, a musical revue of Cole Porter’s beloved classics will be performed in Boyd’s Black Box Theatre on February 24th at 7pm.  Tickets are $10 and available from Jazz Choir members.  For more information, visit the Boyd Choir.

6) Laura’s Legacy Campaign                                                                                                                      

Laura is a Boyd 9th grade student living with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). Several organizations at Boyd are coming together to support Laura and her fight against CF. The campaign activities, events and fundraising will culminate with the Collin County Cystic Fibrosis Foundation “Great Strides Walk for a Cure”, May 19, 2012.

Laura’s “Make a Wish” to spend the day with her hero, Selena Gomez, was unable to be fulfilled. Please help get this wish fulfilled for her by posting “Laura’s Legacy wants Selena Gomez” on the facebook wall  or twitter feed for Selena Gomez.
