High School Hallways is brief weekly digest of happenings in McKinney area high schools.

McKinney Independent School District (MISD)

1) It’s Nearly Time for the Class of 2013 to Take the Stage

The Class of 2013 is set to take the stage, with 1,585 seniors from MISD graduating. McKinney Boyd’s senior class is the largest with 680 students, McKinney High has 519 and McKinney North 386. Read More.                                        Watch the MISD graduation live on June7th!

2) Newly Passed Bill Will Drastically Reduce Standardized Testing for Texas High School Students

Thanks to a bill passed by the Texas Senate and House of Representatives late last week, high school students in Texas soon won’t have to pass as many standardized tests to earn their diploma. Read More. 

3) `Square Off’ Tackles Underage Drinking and Texting While Driving

4) Three MISD Seniors Receive National Merit Scholarships

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced approximately 2,500 winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities. Read More.

5) MEF Awards $356,000 in Scholarships to Graduating MISD Seniors

There were tears, cheers, and standing ovations as the McKinney Education Foundation awarded $356,700 in scholarships to MISD graduating seniors at MEF’s Annual Scholarship Awards Night. Read More.

6) State Runner-up Golfer Whaley Will Miss Boyd, But Looks Forward to Bright Future
