High School Hallways is brief weekly digest of happenings in McKinney area high schools.

McKinney Independent School District (MISD)

1) Boyd, MHS Win ACT College Readiness Awards
McKinney Boyd High School and McKinney High School have received the “2012 College Readiness Award” from the Texas ACT Council for increasing the number of students taking the ACT Assessment over the past five years and significantly increasing their level of achievement and college readiness. 2) McKinney ISD Teachers Win Raytheon Math Hero Awards
They don’t leap tall buildings or perform miraculous feats of strength, but Dowell Middle School teacher Trista Hennebry and McKinney High School teacher Theresa Horvath possess perhaps a far greater power. Read More.

3) Mike Bruu: Basketball Update, Driskell, and The Golden Flash
Welcome into the post-Thanksgiving edition of the column. After a weekend full of family, food, and football, it is time to get back to work until I get another break in a matter of weeks that will consist of family, food, and football. Read More.

4) TSB Football Awards: Honoring Our City’s Best in 2012
In college football, the Heisman trophy conversations begin in early July before the players even take the field to play their first game. I don’t think there was that kind of talk leading up to the announcement of the first ever TSB football Most Valuable Player Award, but maybe one day it can get there. Read More.

5) Collin County Roundball Classic: MISD Schools See Improvement After Playing in Competitive Tournament
The 6th annual girls Collin County Roundball Classic concluded on Saturday night with Duncanville defeating Plano West 61-55 to claim the tournament title. Read More.

6) Boyd Freshman Girls Basketball Team Wins Tournament Title
The McKinney Boyd freshman girls basketball team recently won the championship at the 16-team McKinney High Freshman Tournament. Read More.
