The girls basketball season officially tipped off Tuesday night around McKinney, and two teams walked away with season opening wins. North and Boyd were able to get big early season wins, while MHS came up just short versus Frisco Liberty at home.
The Lady Bulldogs got off to a good start with a win over Frisco on Tuesday night, defeating the Lady Racoons 72-54. Alexis Mason finished with a team-high 23 points, while Chanterria Jackson had 18 points and KK Connor finished with 14 points.
North travels to Irving MacArthur this Friday night.
The Lady Broncos topped Denton Ryan 49-46 on the road Tuesday night. Boyd led 29-20 at halftime, and despite being outscored 26-20 in the second half, the Lady Broncos were able to hold on for a big season opening win.
Haley Carruthers led Boyd in scoring with 15 points, while Julia Hendrieth and Natalie Maina each finished with 10 points.
Boyd will compete in the Frisco ISD Tip-Off Classic this weekend. The tournament begin Thursday afternoon as the Lady Broncos take on Bishop Lynch. The game tips off at 4:30 p.m.
MHS lost its season opener 56-50 at home versus Frisco Liberty. After being tied at 21 through one half of play, the Lionettes were outscored 35-29 in the second half and fell to 0-1 on the season.
Mariah Mitchell led all scorers with 26 points, while Jazsmin Nelson finished with 11 point for the Lionettes.
MHS travels to Killeen Shoemaker this Friday night in a non-district game. The game will tipoff at 6:30 p.m.
