Gateway Agreements back before MCDC, Council

The McKinney Community Development Corporation will hold a public hearing to consider approving a Hotel and Event Center Development Agreement and Hotel Ground Lease Agreement for Gateway.

The 6 p.m. Tuesday meeting will be in the Council Chamber Workroom.

The second part of the MCDC meeting will cover approving the Hotel and Event Center Development Agreement and Hotel Ground Lease Agreement.


The council will be meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday for a work session with updates from the McKinney Economic Development Corporation, where new MEDC President Jim Wehmeier officially started work Oct. 29.

MEDC update: Vice President Abby Liu attended the TexasOne quarterly board meeting and the Texas Economic Development Council conference, both in Austin.

MEDC staff participated as exhibitor at the Governor’s Small Business Expo and Forum and the Association of Chinese Professionals Mid-Autumn Performing Arts Show in Allen.

John Valencia travelled to Tulare, California, to research the site of a technology that potentially could be brought to North Texas and McKinney. Valencia directs MEDC’s Business Retention & Expansion, and Emerging Technology.

MEDC staff is continuing communication efforts with property and business owners along the 75 construction corridor. Signs and banners have been placed at strategic locations to direct customers to entrances and exits.

The Encore Wire expansion project is near completion. The expansion will bring approximately 100 new jobs to McKinney.

MEDC board approved Raytheon expansion incentives.

Two new MEDC board members were sworn in: Lance Lindsay and Julie Fort.

Ernest Lynch III was reappointed for one more term to the MEDC board.

MEDC board officers for 2012-13 are: Keith Clifton – Board Chair, Ernest Lynch, III – Vice-chair, Julie Fort – Secretary/Treasurer.

The McKinney Convention and Visitors Bureau will update the council on the office move to 200 Virginia Street and MCVB’s plan for attracting more people to the city. Interim executive director Dee-Dee Guerra and MVVB board chair Angie Bado (publisher of will make the presentation.

The Council will also receive an Capital Improvement Program update.


The Council will be discussing land development from Virginia Parkway to US 380 and Stonebridge Drive to Ridge Road.

The Council will also be meeting with the city attorney.


The Council will hear a Salvation Army Red Kettle Proclamation and a McKinney High School Presentation then get down to business on:

* Tom Allen Park lighting

* Homeland Security Grant Funding for an enhanced SWAT vehicle as part of the Urban Area Security Initiative.

* A grant from the Environmental Protection Agency for brown fields.

* On-street bike lanes

* 380 agreement at Craig Ranch

* Purchasing two dump trucks

* Purchasing a Vacuum Excavation Machine

* Adriatica Public Hearing on general development plan

* Public hearing on St. Paul Square Lofts at Adriatic Parkway and Mediterranean Drive

* The Gateway Agreements

* Millennium Apartments at McKinney Ranch Parkway and Silver Trail.

* Custer Road and Wilmeth Road Master Thoroughfare Plan


On Wednesday, the Community Grants Advisory Commission will be meeting at 6:30 p.m. for a public hearing on funding requests for the 2012-13 Community Support Grant.


The City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing Monday afternoon to discuss amending Ordinances on Sexually Oriented Businesses.
