3 Questions with MHS Head Coach Jeff Smith:
Q: After watching the film, what were your impressions from the loss at Plano last week?
A: “I thought Plano played really well. They are a good football team and I thought they played one of the best games they have played all year long. I thought we did some really good things. We moved the ball really well, but it really came down to six or seven plays. We had penalties, a couple fumbles, a missed tackle and a dropped ball here and there. Those are six or seven things that really changed the momentum of the game. When you play programs like that, you have to play pretty clean.”
Q: What do you tell your kids at the beginning of the week regarding the Homecoming schedule?
A: “There are a lot of activities during the week and we want them to enjoy homecoming. But at the same time, we have to know when it is time to go to work and bring that workman-like attitude to practice. They understand that and we’ve had two good days of practice this week. Sometimes after you come off of a loss, you are ready to play again pretty quick. I think they are ready to go out there and prove themselves.”
Q: What is the scouting report on Plano East?
A: “I expect them to play a lot better. They have a lot of tremendous players on that team, and when their starting quarterback got hurt, their sophomore backup came in and did a good job. They are just trying to adjust with their starter being gone, so it’s obviously a feeling out process and a bit of a transition. But they will play a lot better and I am sure they are going to be ready to play and try and get a win. Defensively, they are one of the most athletic teams in the district. We are going to have to play a great game and hopefully slow them down on offense.”
