ALLEN (3-0, 7-1) AT MCKINNEY HIGH (1-2, 5-3)
When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Where: Ron Poe Stadium
3 Questions with MHS head coach Jeff Smith:
Q: What were your thoughts on the Plano West loss last week?
A: “It was a tough game. Plano West is good and it was really a game of two halves. We played pretty well in the first half and probably should have had a touchdown lead going into the half. I thought they came out in the third quarter and they scored pretty quick, and then we had a couple mistakes and a couple turnovers and in about six or seven minutes, they really pulled away from us.”
Q: How big is it for the football program to have playoff-like games being played in your first year in 5A at the end of the season?
A: “We are very proud of these kids. A lot of people didn’t know how this year would turn out, but these guys have really had a good non-district schedule and won a big district game against Plano East. We have put ourselves in a position to make the playoffs and that is exciting for our kids and coaches just to be talking about playoff scenarios.”
Q: What is the scouting report on Allen?
A: “Allen is a top-10 team in the state and they have earned that. They have beat some quality opponents this year and they are very deep and very physical. They are going to be a big challenge, and what we have to do is physically be able to meet that challenge in the offensive and defensive lines. We can’t make mistakes against teams like this. In the games that we have lost in district, we have kind of hurt ourselves and it has been really hard to recover.”
MCKINNEY BOYD (2-1, 5-3) AT PLANO EAST (0-3, 4-3)
When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Where: Murphy’s Kimbrough Stadium
3 Questions with Boyd head coach Don Drake:
Q: After watching the film, what were your thoughts on the loss versus Allen last week?
A: “I thought they got after us pretty good and we didn’t respond like I thought we would. It got away from us early and it was not how we needed it to play out. I thought if we were going to win the football game, we were going to have to win it in the fourth quarter. And with the way things transpired, it got away from us pretty quick.”
Q: Why do you think the Eagles were able to shut down Bryan Driskell so effectively?
A: “I don’t think they did anything special but outplay us. It wasn’t like they did anything scheme-wise that was out of the ordinary. They just flat outplayed us.”
Q: What is the scouting report on Plano East?
A: “They are a talented team. They have got the ability to beat you. I don’t know if their starting quarterback will be back this week. There are rumors that Smalls may be coming back from injury, and that’s scary because I have seen him when they have him in there cause they are a different ball club. I’m not saying the kid they have can’t get it done, but emotionally Smalls lifts them playing. That’s probably the biggest question that will be answered tomorrow night.”
MCKINNEY NORTH (2-3, 2-6) AT WYLIE EAST (4-1, 6-2)
When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Where: Wylie Stadium
3 Questions with North head coach Mike Fecci:
Q: What were your thoughts on the win at Greenville last Friday night?
A: “We played well. We forced turnovers and that was the big thing, as well as making plays. We finally made plays and that was really nice to see.”
Q: How big was it to have Justin and Ronald Jones each run for over 100 yards last week?
A: “Up front, our offensive line was really able to open up some holes for them to run through. For both to go over 100 yards rushing, it’s been a while since we have had that happen. It was a good thing.”
Q: What is the scouting report on Wylie East?
A: “They are very explosive offensively. They have weapons all over the field and they do a good job of distributing them the ball. We are going to have to play sound defense and force some turnovers and try and play defense with our offense. We have to control the clock and be able to sustain drives. It is the same idea that we had against Lovejoy that we just have to get points on every drive.”
