Game Day: Boyd, North Prepare For Key District Games on Friday Night

By Mike Bruu, TSB Sports Editor

Every week, TSB will give you all of the last minute news and notes you need to know before the games kick off on Friday nights. Read scouting reports straight from the head coaches, get the latest injury news, and get ready for another exciting week of MISD football with Football Game Day on Town Square Buzz.

MCKINNEY BOYD (1-0, 4-2) AT PLANO (1-0, 4-2)

When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Where: Plano’s John Clark Stadium

Boyd Injury News: No injuries reported.

3 Questions with Boyd running back Bryan Driskell:

Q: With the scores being so one-sided in your favor the past two games, your team has been able to get some backup running backs on the field to get some carries. How important is that to the team?

A: “Oh yeah definitely. They are ready no matter what. I know that I can rely on them to carry the load when I go out, so it’s really good to get them.”

Q: How did it feel to beat Plano West last week after what happened against them three years ago?

A: “Yeah, I avenged my brother because he was on that team when they lost. It was definitely a good win and it was a great way to start district play.”

Q: What is the scouting report on Plano?

A: “They have always been a pretty good team. It is there homecoming game and everything, so they are going to come out and be ready to play.”

WYLIE (1-2, 1-5) AT MCKINNEY NORTH (1-2, 1-5)

When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Where: Ron Poe Stadium

North Injury News: No new injuries to report.

3 Questions with North Head Coach Mike Fecci:

Q: After watching the film, what were your impressions from your team’s loss at Lovejoy last week?

A: “I thought we played one of our best games of the year from start to finish. We played well defensively and we held them down some. Offensively we were able to run the ball consistently. It kind of came down to the fact that we had a couple turnovers and they didn’t, and they had a couple big plays as well. We had a big play in the third quarter come back for a holding, but all in all I was really pleased in our effort. I thought we played hard from start to finish.”

Q: What is the scouting report on Wylie?

A: “They are a really good football team. They have a whole bunch of similarities to us. Obviously the record jumps out right at you, but they played really good people in non-district like we did and they have had a bunch of injuries like we have had. It’s week six and you have a bunch of teams log jammed for that fourth playoff spot and this game will separate that out. We just have to go out there and execute at a high level and go get to that upper level.”

Q: Is Wylie more of a passing or rushing offensive team?

A: “They throw the ball quite a bit. They run it when they can, but they like to throw the ball. It will be a real challenge for a defensive line to get some pressure, and it is going to be a challenge for our secondary to do what they do and cover those guys.”

Make sure you check back with TSB for all the scores and news after week seven of the high school football season in McKinney! The second TSB Game of the Week is McKinney North hosting Wylie, so check out a little Bulldogs football this Friday night at Ron Poe Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
