Patricia Serio, wife of McKinney High long-time swim coach Sam Serio, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday. She was 57 years old and employed as Assistant Branch Manager for Legacy Bank of Texas in McKinney.
As head coach of the school’s swim and dive team, Sam Serio has been an integral part of McKinney High’s coaching staff for many years.
McKinney ISD Athletic Director Shawn Pratt said, “Coach Serio is an honored and highly recognized swim coach in Texas. He and Patricia have both been an important part of our community for a long time. On behalf of the entire athletic department, I’d like to express my deepest sympathy to Coach Serio and his family.”
Jeff Smith, head football coach and campus athletic co-ordinator for McKinney High School, said, “Coach Serio and his wife Patricia have lived in McKinney for over 30 years and are loved and respected by so many people. Coach Serio has coached in McKinney for 30 years and been teaching for 38 total years. When I arrived at McKinney and went to my first swim meet I found out very soon that Sam Serio is a very well respected swim/dive coach. I learned quickly how fortunate I was to have such a great coach and an even better man. My sympathies go out to Coach Serio and his family.”
