TSB Community Contributor

A Summer Concert, Part II, will take place at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 19, at Heard-Craig Hall in McKinney. It’s located at 306 N. Church Street. No reservations are required, and the event is free.

The program will feature Jason Davis and Jerry Rizzi in an entertaining mix of jazz standards by Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller and Miles Davis.

Davis’s most recent work includes artist in residencies at the South Dallas Cultural Center and the Black Academy of Arts and Letters. He founded the Dallas Jazz Collective, a 30 piece community performance group. Davis has performed with music legends Judy Collins, Stephanie Mills, Cuba Gooding, Sr., The Impressions, Roy Ayers and David “Fathead” Newman.

Jazz/blues composer Jerry Rizzi performs on bass, cello, and guitar. His demanding teaching, recording and performing schedule is split between Dallas and New York City. Rizzi brings together musicians and poets in creative collaborations. He has worked with Jimmy Garrison (bassist for the John Coltrane Quartet) and with legendary jazz guitarist Joe Monk.

Davis and Rizzi will be joined on stage by keyboardist Richard Smith and percussionist Ryan Phalen, and students of the Summer Music Intensives.
