Free Screening of `City of Lost Children’ Coming to McKinney

collin college logo 2Collin College’s Auteur Film Series’ next screening will feature “The City of Lost Children” at 7 p.m. on Oct. 16 at Pike Hall on the Central Park Campus in McKinney, 2200 W. University Drive.

The free screening, part of this year’s “Abandoned by Reason: Six Great Fantasy Films” theme, is a steam punk tale about a twisted biomechanical scientist who steals children’s dreams and of the brave carnival strongman who battles him in real and surreal worlds.

Film series director Dr. Carolyn Perry said fantasy is filled with characters living without the safe boundaries that make up mundane “reality.”

“The inner worlds of these characters are wracked with loneliness, grief and fear,” Perry said. “Fantasy allows us to watch these orphans enter their inner worlds where they hone themselves into weapons or wizards and then re-emerge to take on the hostile outer worlds they fled.”

Doors open 30 minutes before the film begins, and seating is limited. Some material may not be suitable for all audiences.

Each film will be followed by a panel discussion led by Collin College faculty and staff. The series supports the college’s core values of learning, creativity and involvement by engaging students through film and discussion.
