Football Scoreboard: North Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive, MHS Struggles at Plano West

By Mike Bruu, TSB Sports Editor

In an pivotal Week 8 of the high school football season, North remains in the chase with a huge win at Greenville, while MHS loses a shootout at Plano West to fall into fourth place tie in District 10-5A.

McKinney North:

McKinney North stayed alive in the playoff chase in District 13-4A, knocking off Greenville 31-6 on the road to improve to 2-3 in district play and 2-6 overall. Greenville dropped to 0-5 in district and 0-8 overall.

The Bulldogs got big days on the ground from Ronald Jones and Justin Jones, who combined for 228 rushing yards and three rushing scores. Ronald finished with 121 yards on 8 carries, including touchdowns of 51 and 19 yards, while Justin ran for 107 yards on 15 carries, including a four-yard run in the first quarter.

North’s defense was the key in the ballgame, forcing four Marquist Davis interceptions and holding the Greenville quarterback to just 31% passing for 57 yards. Tyler Matthews led the Lions in rushing with 89 yards on 20 carries, but his team fumbled the ball four times in the game and lost one of them.

With the win, the Bulldogs keep their bleak playoff hopes alive for another week. They are currently in fifth place in District 13-4A, and with Lovejoy, Sherman, and Wylie East all clinching spot over the past two weeks, only one berth remains between North and Wylie. Since Wylie holds the tiebreaker over North, one more Wylie win or one more North loss in the last two weeks of the season eliminates the Bulldogs from playoff contention.

North will travel to 4-1 Wylie East next Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
