McKinney Boyd defeated Plano on the road in a key district matchup 15-14 on Friday night at Plano’s John Clark Stadium. The Broncos improved to 2-0 in District 10-5A, while the Wildcats dropped to 1-1.
Bryan Driskell’s 55-yard run early in the fourth quarter was the difference in the game, as Boyd would take the one-point lead. The Broncos would try to convert the two-point conversion to make it a three-point contest, but they could not convert the play.
Driskell ran for a game-high 145 yards on 24 carries, including the game-winning score in the fourth. Curtis Ladd had a quiet night but was extremely effective, throwing just 5-of-9 complete for 51 yards and one touchdown. Receiver Kevin McCormick caught an 11-yard score from Ladd midway through the second quarter to cut the Plano lead to 7-6.
Plano’s quarterback Richard Lagow completed 10-of-17 passes for 122 yards, while Anthony Antwine led all receivers with 67 yards on three receptions. Braylan Campbell ran for a team-high 89 yards on 25 carries, while Lagow had two rushing touchdowns from one and two yards out.
The Broncos will play in perhaps their biggest game of the regular season next week when Allen visits Ron Poe Stadium on Friday night. Both teams are tied atop District 10-5A with a record of 2-0. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
