LONGVIEW — McKinney North captured its first Bi-District Championship since 2005 Friday night, upsetting District 14-4A Champion Texas High (Texarkana) 26-14 in Longview.
North (7-4, 5-2 and the No. 2 seed in 13-4A) will face the winner of Saturday’s Mansfield Legacy-Tyler matchup in the Area Round of the UIL-4A playoffs. The location and time have yet to be determined.
The Bulldogs came out of the gate strong, and head coach Mike Fecci said his team’s ability to take the ball down the field and score on its first possession set the tone for the game.
“We didn’t want to be one-and-done,” Fecci said.
North racked up 364 total yards, with Ronald Jones rushing for 170 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carriers. Ben Dutze had an impressive night under center, throwing for 173 yards on 10 completions and one score. Dutze also rushed for 21 yards and a score.
The Bulldogs defense held Texas High to 165 total yards and just 12 rushing yards. Texas High won the District 14-4A District Championship by finishing the 2013 season 9-1 and 5-0 in district play.
